Last week we tried creating some 3d video. We got ourselves 2 full HD 50fps xdcams. The setup was simple. Put the 2 cameras in line (a little bit of measurement before placing camera’s) And put the object your filming at 30 times the distance between lenses. This is the focus distance.
After we’ve filmed it we started to download the video’s to the computer. we separated the video’s in left and right eye. I’ve used Final Cut Pro to edit the video’s. The trick to get to see the video in 3d was to give each video line a different RGB colour correction.
RED-CYAN
The trick was to turn off all the RED in the right eye and put in on video line 1, and put off all the Blue & Green on the left eye and put it on video Line 2. Now the trick was to ADD the videoline 2 to create the 3d effect.
I figured out in Post Production that its really important to:
* Level the 2 camera exact the same (really hard word)
* Don’t create a big angle, try to keep them as parallel as possible.
* Don’t get much closer than 1/2 of the focus distance (hurts your eyes when watching)
* Don’t get much further than 1 1/2 of the focus distance (You Loose depth-perception)
* Don’t wear red coloured clothes (only applies when you edit Red-Cyan or Red-Blue)
* Use a modified tripod for stereoscopy instead of 2 tripods
